U13/14 Girls
Coaches:
Diego Perez, Tolu Wuraola and Rachel Eykelbosh
Diego has been coaching boys and girls here at the Volleydome for the past 15 years and enjoyed coaching a group of young women starting at U14 for five years, staying with this group, with many of them playing in our U18 program a couple of years ago. Along the way, he started another group of U14 girls and will continue with some of them all the way to their 17/18 Women's team. Then, three years ago, he started yet another group of U14 girls and has led them through 3 successful seasons, while also taking on the assistant coaching role with the SAIT Women's Program. He played for eight years in the A1 Club League in Mendoza, Argentina and is very passionate about volleyball and loves helping the kids improve their skills and knowledge of the game. Diego is a level 2 NCCP Certified Coach and is working on completing his level 3. This will be his twelfth season with Canuck, and guess what, he is starting another U14 Canuck girls program!

U14 Girls
Coaches: Milou Saxton, Sothy Pich, Brianna Flanigan, Kat Dolguikh and Rebeca Agoston
Milou, being the first of the four Saxton children, started playing volleyball at the age of 10 and spent seven years playing with Canuck Stuff club, winning a couple of Provincial Championships and two Nationals Championships before going off to Connecticut University as a Division 1 setter/rightside in the NCAA and pursuing her interests in graphic design. Milou’s passion for coaching started when she was about 16 years old, running the Volleydome summer camps for kids, and she has been actively coaching ever since. Over the years, she has coached all age groups for both guys and girls. Milou has also really enjoyed sharing her experience as a high-level setter over the past few years by running setting sessions for our juvenile women’s setters. Add to that her passion for the beach game and the fact that she spends her summers coaching beach volleyball to club athletes as well as on the Provincial Teams, Summer Games teams and most recently the Western Canada Summer Games team. In her “spare time,” she works full-time running the Volleydome's Youth programs and somehow still finds time to play in the competitive women’s and co-ed leagues. Not sure where she finds the energy, but we are sure grateful for all she brings to our club and the volleyball community in general.

Brianna has been a dedicated volleyball coach at the Volleydome for more than eight years, working across a wide range of youth programs, camps, and private lessons. Over that time, she has helped athletes of all ages and skill levels discover the game, develop strong fundamentals, and grow their confidence both on and off the court. She has completed her NCCP Level 1 certification and has coached with multiple clubs, bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of athlete development. This upcoming season marks her second year coaching with Canuck Volleyball Club. As a player, Brianna competed for five years at the club level, primarily as a middle blocker but also with experience on the right side. Her time as a competitive athlete taught her the value of adaptability, resilience, and teamwork—lessons she now passes on to her players. Brianna believes deeply that sport is one of the most powerful environments for personal growth. She strives to make club volleyball both challenging and enjoyable, fostering a culture where athletes are encouraged to push themselves, embrace challenges, and problem-solve with creativity, strategy, and hard work. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes the balance between fun and discipline, technical development and teamwork, so that athletes leave each season not only as better players, but as stronger, more confident individuals ready to take on whatever comes next.

U14 Boys
Coaches: Maja Frew, Cole Gramlich and Kelly Bashforth
Maja Frew’s (Cerovsek) volleyball journey began right here in Calgary, playing her club years with the Canuck Volleyball Club. As a setter and team captain, she went on to compete at the collegiate level in the ACAC for Mount Royal (MRC) for two years before moving to the CIS level at the University of Saskatchewan for her remaining three years. Throughout her playing career, Maja has competed nationally in both Indoor and Beach Volleyball, and she continues to play and stay involved in the sport that has shaped her life. As a coach, Maja has been part of both provincial and national championship-winning teams, bringing experience across all levels of development—from grassroots U13 athletes to university-level players. Maja is passionate about helping coach the next generation of athletes. She believes in developing strong technical foundations to foster longevity in the game, instilling a complete mentality, and creating an environment that is both fun and highly competitive. Above all, she hopes to pass on her deep love of the game to every player she works with.
Cole is entering his fourth year coaching boys' volleyball at the Volleydome. Over the past few seasons, he has embraced the opportunity to grow as a coach, with a strong desire to share his love and passion for the sport with young athletes. As a player, his volleyball journey began in the U14 age group and continued through to the end of high school at William Aberhart, where his team clenched a Division 1 Provincial Championship title. Today, Cole remains active in the game, playing on competitive recreational teams at the Volleydome. This marks Cole’s first season coaching at Canuck, where he will work with athletes on developing key aspects of volleyball that go beyond skills and gameplay. His approach emphasizes overcoming mental barriers, making strong decisions in sport, embracing accountability, and understanding the true meaning of leadership and teamwork on the court. With experience as both an athlete and a coach, Cole has developed a deep appreciation for these core values, which he believes are essential to success in volleyball. He’s excited to share his passion for the game and continue inspiring and guiding young athletes in their growth both on and off the court.

U15 Girls
Coaches: Camille Saxton, Mylene Saxton, Reid Bilben, Craig Pawlychyn and Jason Fan
Camille has been around volleyball and the Volleydome since not long after she could walk. She played six years with the Canuck Stuff Club and went on to play with Oregon State University as a power hitter on a five-year scholarship, winning numerous awards along the way. Four years ago, Camille joined the FIVB beach circuit, culminating in a trip to compete in the World Championships in Vienna that summer. Being part of the Saxton clan, Camille has been coaching kids since she was 16 years old in Summer Camps, Dome Club, Skills Clinics as well as several club teams with both Canuck and Dome Defenders, After a couple of season coaching the Canuck U17 and U18 Women's teams she is excited to share her playing and coaching experience with an exceptional group of young girls from U12 and taking them on an adventure as Canuck U14's this year to where both teams finished in the top eight at Nationals! Camille is looking forward to taking this group on to U15 next season.
Mylene played at the University of Ottawa, where she was awarded the CIAU Most Valuable Player Award in 1980. She played one year with the Jr. National Team and then went on to play six years for Team Canada, mostly as a middle blocker. After moving to Calgary, Mylene taught and coached volleyball at St. Mary's High School. Mylene has developed many great young volleyball players through the Canuck Stuff program, winning two Canadian National Championships in 2003 and 2005. Mylene has enjoyed coaching our younger athletes, working with the U14 age group and winning back-to-back provincial championships in 2012 and 2013. Mylene continued to coach and develop so very many young women until she stepped away from active coaching in 2020 to spend time with her grandkids. We are thrilled she decided last year to come out of retirement and share her vast wealth of knowledge and passion for the game again with a new group of U14 girls. Lucky for everyone, she really enjoyed being out with this group and is going to continue with them this year!

Canuck will run two competitive U15 Boys teams for 2025/26 season.
Over the past 40 years, Bill has been a player, official and coach in different sports. He has coached Volleyball, Basketball and Soccer over the last 25 years. He was a 10-year member of the Canadian men’s national team, a 1992 Olympian, and he finished off his volleyball career with Canuck Stuff National Championship in 1995. Hanging up the playing equipment and picking up the whistle changed his focus in the sport to the development of the players and the referees to improve the overall level of the game. He was involved with the original Volleydome operations and has returned to coaching volleyball for the past number of seasons, starting with the younger kids at Dome and then into the provincial club system, where he has coached guys and girls teams from the U14 to U18 age groups. If you do not see him on the court as a coach, you may see him on the referee stand, as he officiates many weekends and at all levels, which gives him a different perspective and insight into the game.

Don's volleyball career as a player started over 40 years ago, when, after two years of playing Basketball at UofS, he saw the light and switched to Volleyball, winning CIAU Gold in 1979. Don went on to play a total of 8 years with Team Canada, earning a second-place finish at the FISU Games, a third-place finish at the Pan Am Games, and a fourth-place finish at the 1984 Olympics. Don played Pro Volleyball with the Dutch team in 1980 and in Spain from 1989 to 1991. He started the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club in 1991 as a men's team, which won seven Canadian Championships and one USA Open Championship. During the last 15 years, he has still enjoyed playing and winning in the masters and seniors categories, earning four more world titles. Don's coaching career started with a couple of seasons as an apprentice and assistant coach with Team Canada, and his first youth club team was a group of 13-year-old Bantam boys, most of whom had never seen a volleyball before. Since that time, Don and Mylene have run programs for players of all ages, including the very popular adult co-ed leagues, Volleyball Academy and Dome Club for kids in grades 3 to 11, School and Club Tournaments and of course the Canuck Stuff Youth Volleyball Club for male and female players between the ages of 13 and 18. Don was awarded the Tachikara Coach of the Year Award in 2008 after leading a group of U18 girls on an unexpected journey that culminated in a Silver medal at the Canadian Open Juvenile Championships. The next season, he led a group of U14 guys to a National Championship in Abbotsford and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame again, this time as the recipient of the Sport Builder Award for all he has done to benefit the volleyball community over the past 40+ years! Don is looking forward to building another strong group of boys this year at the U16 age group.

A Crescent Heights High School alumnus, Jefferson returned to his former school as head coach and led them to their first city final since his graduation—kick-starting five straight finals appearances and elevating the program from a division 3 school, to provincial contender status. Named Calgary Senior High School Athletics Association Coach of the Year in 2022/2023, he has also coached U14–U18 boys with multiple Calgary clubs, including a record-setting U18 season with Ace Volleyball Club that earned him 2023/2024 Coach of the Year. Brian Gullekson, Claire Laurie and Jocelyn Ruark
2026 will mark Brian's 27th season coaching volleyball at Canuck Stuff, although it also marks his 44th year involved in competitive sports as either a coach, official and/or sport administrator. Brian has spent those years coaching Canuck guys and girls club teams and has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He is a Level 2 NCCP certified coach in both Softball and Volleyball, and has completed all the training for his Level 3 Performance Coach criteria. Brian is also an Advanced Coach Developer and Evaluator. He spent 16 years officiating Basketball at all levels, including community, ACAC, CIAU and the World Basketball League. Over the years, Brian's teams have earned several championship banners, and many of the athletes he has coached have gone to play at the post-secondary, national and professional levels, but his greatest pride is in watching these young athletes grow to become great young men and women and in some cases return to coach at Canuck or the Volleydome.
